Holiday Travels Small Toy List

Holiday 2016 is our first experience traveling with TWO littles! So, in preparation, I started collecting and packing some small toys for my two-year-old’s and three-month-old’s personal on-flight entertainment. I always find my toddler enjoys some new toys while leaving his regular favorites at home. These are my “surprise toys” and since he has never seen them before, we can get 10-15 minutes worth of distraction out of each toy! It is hard to find a good mix of toys we can play together and some he can use alone. And I have to mention the dilemma of trying to discover toys that don’t make noise and are small enough for travel without leaving a mess. Please note: some of these toys are pretty small, so use them at your own discretion.

My favorite secret weapon on airplanes is an iPad, but at two-years-old, I like Zane to have some toys he can play with too! Crayons and markers are not the best because he still likes to eat crayons and markers will end up everywhere … and so does the ink! So, after an extensive search, here is a list of fun and easy travel toys. Most are found on Amazon, Target, or baby stores. Click on the pictures for a direct link to purchase from Amazon!

Buckle Toy Mini – This toy keeps little fingers busy.  There are three different types of buckles for kids to play with and the reverse side has the cutest numbers.  There is also an adorable larger version of this toy. This super soft plush is uniquely designed with colorful primary bold colors to appeal to any child’s early fascination with buckles. Toddlers will not only learn to ‘SNAP’ and “CLICK’ but also develop and strengthen fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, problem solving, and color recognition. The cuddly body is embroidered with different shapes and numbers, too.

Panda Peek -A-Boo 🐼 – Everybody likes a fun game of Peek-A-Boo.  Somehow this toy keeps little guys and girls busy no matter what age! This wooden panda baby toy loves to play peek-a-boo! Hear the click and clack as its paws flap up to cover the cheerful face, then push them down again to say, “Hello!” and it is made with select hardwood and child-safe dyes.

Water Wow books ✏️ – Water Wow books are amazing!  No-mess painting for kids! This exciting paint-with-water coloring book includes four reusable pages and a refillable water pen. Simply use the pen to color in each scene. Details and vibrant color appear with every stroke! Let the page dry to erase the pictures and fill it in again and again.

Micro Machines – The Original Scale Miniatures (called either “Micro Machines” or simply “The Micros”) are a line of toys originally made by Galoob (now part of Hasbro) in the mid-1980s and throughout the 1990s.  These cars are seriously tiny (and a definite choking hazard if your kiddo likes to put them in their mouth) But their size makes them super portable! Use with care!

Train in a Tin –  This set proves that a lot of fun can fit in a little space. This 16-piece train set fits neatly inside its small tin! This battery-operated train works like a charm and is easy to take in and out of the tin. Perfect for travel and for train lovers. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Melissa and Doug Mini Puzzle Set – This wooden set of four 4-piece wooden vehicle puzzles features raised pieces for easy grasping and matching pictures under pieces. Slide-out puzzle trays include color-coded organizer tabs to help find the right match and come in a compact, stay-closed travel case!

Wikki Sticks – Simply stated, they stick! No glue, no paste, no mess. Just press them down with light fingertip pressure on virtually any smooth surface and they will stick. They are also easy to peel up and reposition so “mistakes” virtually disappear. They are soft and pliable to use, and they stick to each other for 3-D creativity and fun. Twist, bend, stick, create! That’s it! No preparation, no clean-up, no mess. Press ‘em down, peel ‘em off … it’s that simple.

Wind-up magnetic fishing game – Most millennials will remember their parents handing them the Wind-Up Fishing Game before a long road trip. Catching a fish with the magnetic pole was extremely satisfying. The good news for those millennials is that now you can relive some of those childhood memories. And, unlike most things seen through nostalgia goggles, the Wind-Up Fishing Game actually is as fun as you remembered it.

Fisher Price Little People Wheelies Jet – Little People Friends get the fun rolling in a brand new way. Wheelies are cool kid-sized vehicles that fit perfectly in little hands. Each has a favorite character built right in and they really zip and zoom.

Bla Bla Baby Play Mat – This play pad is essential for any little one. Perfect for nap time, tummy time, or play time. Two handles make it easy to fold up and carry with you on a trip or to use outdoors on a picnic. 100% cotton, polyfill.

What’z It Fidget Toy – You can manipulate the What’zit into several different shapes. Turn and twist the colored pieces to create a zigzag pattern, a box, or your own unique designs. It’s great for fidgeting with anywhere and anytime!

Whoozit Manhattan Toy- The Baby Whoozit is full of whimsy and delight but also encourages fundamental learning on so many levels. The six-inch round body of Baby Whoozit is pillow-like and is made of ultra-soft and lush cotton velour fabric. The soft material makes it so easy for babies to cuddle with which provides a unique tactile experience. Each of the Baby Whoozit arms – seven in all – feature hidden noisemakers which provides auditory stimulation for babies. The hidden noisemakers include crinkle paper, squeakers, and rattles.

Fisher Price On-the-Go gift set- This traveling trio is just the right size for little hands and little mouths. Two teethers, a clacker, and lots of fun by land, air or sea! The Airplane Teether is ready for take-off! Easy for baby to grasp and hold with friendly spinning passengers and a handy link. The Sailboat Teether is a wave of teethable fun for baby. Easy for baby to grasp and hold with a handy link to sail along anywhere! The Clacker Car has clacking beads on the top, colorful beads in the wheel, and a handy link this little car is fueled up for take-along fun.
